This town was originally developed as a foreign settlement through modernization efforts. Today, it is a famous tourist location due to its Western-style townscape, and you can usually find many tourists roaming the streets on any given day. The small island seen from the town's seaside park is in fact a giant school campus, which only students and faculty are allowed to set foot on. There are two schools located on this island—Kenseikan Academy, which our protagonist Hajime attends; and Misakihama Academy, which Yui attends. In addition to these two schools, the island is host to dozens of student accommodation dormitories, a large, well-stocked canteen, and other communal facilities necessary in the course of daily life.
Rich in history and tradition, Kenseikan Academy is characterized by its Western-style buildings that have watched this town grow and change for many years from this small island. Captivated by its cinematic and picturesque atmosphere, many students have enrolled at Kenseikan only to regret their decision once they learned of the school's longstanding ban on romantic relationships. While the majority of Kenseikan's annual events are not much different from those of a regular school's, the Halloween Party in October and the Christmas Party in December are two of its biggest festivities.
Modeled after the public-school systems of foreign countries, the student dormitories house both boys and girls of differing ages, with an emphasis on encouraging upperclassmen to help underclassmen. However, while the school's aim had always been to foster an environment in which its students could grow to be well-respected gentlemen and ladies of society, many were dissatisfied with the apparent contradiction of its prohibition of romantic relationships. The boys' rooms are located on the first floor, while the girls' rooms are located on the second. Since boys are not permitted upstairs, the second floor is regarded as a secret flower garden.
